Dell PowerEdge R630 Servers – new and refurbished

FAQ

Is the Dell PowerEdge R630 a good server for VMware virtualisation?

Yes – the R630 is one of the most popular VMware hosts in both SMB and enterprise environments. It supports up to 1.5 TB of DDR4 ECC RAM, dual Intel Xeon E5 v3/v4 processors, and fast 12 Gb/s SAS or NVMe storage, making it easy to run dozens of virtual machines on a single node without I/O bottlenecks.

What is the difference between the 8-bay 2.5" and the 10-bay 2.5" configurations?

The 10x 2.5" version provides more drive slots, translating to higher IOPS and greater capacity within the same 1U chassis. The 8x 2.5" version is more than sufficient for databases and ERP workloads where access speed matters more than raw capacity. The right choice ultimately depends on your specific workload profile.

What is included as standard with a Dell R630 from Hardware Direct?

Every R630 from Hardware Direct comes as a complete package: an H730P RAID controller, redundant power supplies, rack-mount rails, and iDRAC 8 Enterprise. All servers are recertified and load-tested, so they are ready to deploy straight out of the rack – no additional components required.

Where do the Dell PowerEdge R630 servers sold by Hardware Direct come from, and what condition are they in?

All available units are off-lease equipment that undergoes a full recertification process before sale, including replacement of thermal paste, RAID batteries, and fans where needed, followed by load testing. Every unit is covered by a warranty of up to 36 months, with extension options available.

Which processors are available in the Dell PowerEdge R630?

A wide range of Intel Xeon E5 v3 and v4 processors is available – from the E5-2620 v3 for lower-cost, lighter workloads, up to the E5-2699 v4 with 22 cores per socket. For core-count-intensive workloads, a dual E5-2680 v4 configuration (28 cores in total) is a strong choice. For latency-sensitive applications, the E5-2667 v4 with a 3.2 GHz base clock is worth considering.

Can the R630 be leased or rented instead of purchased outright?

Yes – Hardware Direct offers both leasing and rental options for the Dell PowerEdge R630, helping you avoid a large upfront expenditure while preserving cash flow. This is particularly useful if you want to evaluate the server in your production environment before committing to a purchase.
